Union Finance Ministry on 28 July 2014 gave its nod to the proposal to set up rape crisis centres in all district of the country. The proposal was made by the Union Ministry of Women and Children Development.
The proposal has been made in wake of increasing crime against women.
Benefits of the proposed Rape crisis centre
• It will offer medical and legal services besides police help to victims of rape and sexual assault
• The facilities are likely to be linked to a national helpline

According to the proposal, 660 rape crisis centres will be created across the country.
